Guillermo Alonso (Archdiocese of Los Angeles)
Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles
BA in Philosophy, Minor in Sociology
Have you ever looked back at life and ask yourself, “How was I able to overcome or accomplish this in life”? This question is going through my head as I count the last few days of my formation stage at Juan Diego House. It was God working through my imperfections and struggles in this discernment journey that helped me get to the point where I am today. God can truly make something out of nothing if you give him the opportunity to work with you but you must never lose hope. I am eternally grateful to God for reminding me that I am loved through the support and prayers from the Archdiocese, Parish, Formation Directors, Brother Seminarians, Professors, Friends but most importantly my Family for always believing in me even when I doubted my own potential. These last three years of formation at the Juan Diego House were not easy but I never lost faith in the meaning of Matthew 19:26. Thank you for helping me become the person I am becoming because it was you all that inspired me to not quit and give it my all.
Above all, I would like to thank God for blessing me with my calling and the incredible experience I have had at Juan Diego House. Archbishop Gomez, the directors at Juan Diego House, my brother seminarians and all of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles have been very supportive in my discernment and studies towards priesthood and I could not thank them enough. It has been a very fruitful and memorable past two years. Lastly, I would like to thank all of the parishioners of St. Dorothy’s, my friends and especially my family who have supported me so much through their prayers, friendship and love. I am excited to continue my journey towards priesthood with all of you by my side.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to those individuals who, in one way or another, have made it possible for me to be in this journey of formation and discernment toward the priesthood. First and foremost, I would like to thank Archbishop José Gómez for having opened up the doors of this Archdiocese to me. Special thanks to the office for Vocations for their continuous support and encouragement. Thanks to the parish communities of American Martyrs, St. Thomas the Apostle, and St. Lawrence Martyr whose faith, prayers and love have inspired me to keep going on this path. Lastly, I would like to thank my family who through highs and lows has encouraged me to do my best and follow God’s voice.
I would like to thank the Diocese of Fresno and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for all their support. I am truly blessed and grateful for all the prayers and support that I have received. I would like to express my deepest and greatest gratitude to all those who have helped me in my formation and discernment process. Words cannot express how grateful I am to all those who have been involved in my faith journey. The people of God have expressed God's love in a very real and tangible way, which has, and continues, to help me share this unconditional love with those that God has brought into my life. I pray that God will continue to bless those who have supported me throughout my formation and discernment process.
