The whole training of the students should have as its object to make them true shepherds of souls after the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, teacher, priest and shepherd. (Pastores Dabo Vobis #57; PPF #238)

"As I have done, so you must do." (John 13: 15)

A proper response to an authentic call to the priesthood must include a desire to be of LOVING SERVICE to the People of God. A major part of that response on the part of the seminarian is to make a PREFERENTIAL OPTION TO SERVE THE POOR, promoting the prophetic gifts of JUSTICE FOR PEACE, and so enter his ministerial roles from the perspective of SERVANT LEADERSHIP.

The life of the seminarians of Juan Diego House includes a life of service at the PARISH COMMUNITY from which they heard their call to formation. In the case of an individual who is not connected to a parish in the Archdiocese, one will be assigned to him. Each seminarian's pastor will be included in an annual evaluation, giving him a key role in the overall evaluation of the seminarian.

Seminarians are called to a life of service to the broader community as well. They are expected to participate in ARCHDIOCESAN EVENTS, such as the RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CONGRESS and the CHRISM MASS. They will also be assigned to serve Mass at the CATHEDRAL on assigned dates twice a semester. During the month of January, while the educational institutions are on winter intersession, seminarians will be asked to VOLUNTEER at parishes and ministerial sites to collaborate in special projects with selected schools and parishes.

Seminarians will also be given opportunities of service in the MINISTRY OF VOCATIONS, serving the Church through the sharing of their vocation stories and listening to others who are considering a priestly or consecrated life. This will happen at such events as the Religious Education Congress, regional congresses, special youth events, discernment events, school visitations, and other events related to vocation promotion.
